The creation of the City of Justice arose from the need to bring together all judicial bodies within a single complex in order to ensure functionality, efficiency, management, and accessibility.

The complex, with a total built area of 232,368 m², consists of nine buildings connected by a shared central lobby known as the Atrium. Seven of these house judicial facilities serving the municipalities of Barcelona and Hospitalet de Llobregat, in addition to an office and services building and a residential building.

In 2010, the project received one of the awards granted annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), as well as the World Architecture Festival (WAF) award for Civic and Community Building.
