OHLA has strengthened its activity in the Czech Republic with the award of two new contracts worth approximately €80 million. Both projects will be carried out through OHLA ŽS, the Group’s subsidiary in this market.

The first of these contracts is for the project known as the “Black Cube,” a center dedicated to digitization, science, and innovation located in the city of Ostrava. With an estimated budget of €50 million, the building will feature nine above-ground floors and two underground levels. It will house the new headquarters of the Moravian-Silesian Research Library and will include learning spaces, laboratories, technology zones, and areas open to the public. Its design is set to make it one of the most striking buildings in the city and the country as a whole.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 29, 2025. The building was designed by the architectural studio Kuba & Pilař architekti and is financed by the European Union through the Just Transition Operational Programme. The project will be executed by the Black Rubic consortium, formed by OHLA ŽS and Metrostav. Completion is scheduled for mid-2027.

The second contract involves the construction of a new building for the 2nd Faculty of Medicine at Charles University, located on the Motol campus in Prague. With a budget of nearly €30 million and a surface area of over 20,000 m², the building will include teaching, administrative, research, and student support facilities. It will feature a clinical simulation center, laboratories, administrative offices, and multipurpose spaces.

In this context, it is also worth noting that earlier this year, the company was awarded a contract for the modernization of a new section of the D1 motorway near Brno. This road is one of the country’s main transport infrastructures and forms part of the corridor connecting Prague with southeastern Czech Republic and the Slovak border. This contract, together with the most recent awards, consolidates OHLA’s expansion in this strategic market, where the company has been active since 2003.
