OHLA, through its subsidiary OHLA Ireland, and in collaboration with its partner Townlink Construction, has delivered the Technological University Dublin Academic Hub & Library, a landmark education project that combines the refurbishment of protected historic structures with the construction of new areas, creating a modern, integrated, and highly functional academic environment.

The project was awarded the Digital / BIM Initiative of the Year prize at the Irish Building and Design Awards 2026, one of the most prestigious recognitions in Ireland’s construction and infrastructure sector, celebrating excellence and innovation in the use of digital methodologies.

The complex has a total floor area of 12,580 m², of which 9,505 m² correspond to new-build works and 3,075 m² to the refurbishment of protected buildings. The project successfully integrates the existing architectural heritage with a contemporary design, creating a cohesive space that enhances the university experience and strengthens the campus identity.

One of the project’s standout features is that every phase of its lifecycle—concept design and tendering, demolition, refurbishment, construction, facility management, and final handover—was managed entirely using BIM methodologies. This approach was underpinned by advanced multidisciplinary coordination, the integration of digital processes, and the creation of a single information model that supported the project from inception through to operation.

Thanks to this approach, planning and execution were optimised, coordination with the client and the design teams improved, and communication flows across the entire supply chain were strengthened.
