The works associated with the breakwater construction of the new Port of Granadilla, located in the south of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands), included the execution of a 2,286-metre-long breakwater, configured in three distinct alignments. The first, 712 metres long, comprises an initial 596-metre section with a sloped embankment typology—referred to as the North Breakwater—and a final 116-metre section executed as a vertical breakwater, formed by two reinforced concrete wave-dissipating caissons. The second alignment, 700 metres in length, consists of 12 wave-dissipating caissons, while the third, 874 metres long, is constructed using 15 caissons without wave-dissipating cells. The breakwater is crowned by a wave wall at elevation +10 in the sloped section and +11 in the vertical section, with caisson foundation depths ranging between -16 and -24 metres.
At the outer end of the breakwater, a 130-metre-long head (“hammerhead”) structure, composed of three caissons, has been constructed to enhance the operational capacity and protection of the port infrastructure. Within the inner basin, an initial section of the Ribera quay has been developed, with a length of 132.5 metres and a draft depth of 16 metres, including a ro-ro ramp at its starting point, and executed using five caissons of 33 metres in length.
In addition, a perimeter enclosure parallel to the North Breakwater has been constructed, offset 350 metres inland, with the aim of creating an approximately 110,000 sqm platform in the rear area of the Ribera quay. Finally, the works have been completed with the extension of the counter breakwater by an additional 131 metres, executed using four reinforced concrete caissons.
