The project, a benchmark in urban regeneration, has transformed the city’s urban landscape and responds to the growing demand for accessible and sustainable environments. The redevelopment of the area at the intersection of Sevilla and Alcalá streets, Carrera de San Jerónimo and Plaza de Canalejas has created more space for pedestrians while improving the organization and regulation of surface public transport. The project also included the renovation of street furniture and the installation of new lighting inspired by the historic street lamps of late 19th-century Madrid.

As part of OHLA’s sustainable construction strategy, Centro Canalejas Madrid has achieved the LEED® Gold Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The project followed the LEED® for New Construction and Major Renovations (LEED NC) program, which evaluates efficiency across design, construction, commissioning, and operation phases. A key example is the roof area, where the ventilation and cooling systems are located.

The complex also incorporates alternative energy sources such as geothermal energy, meets the highest indoor environmental quality standards, promotes responsible water consumption, and includes electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle parking, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and efficient urban mobility.
