With a total usable floor area of 3,814 m², comprising two above-ground levels and one basement, the new Physics Institute building is primarily dedicated to solid-state physics research. The building houses 55 laboratories within an area of 1,235 m², where more than 200 scientists work. The building’s U-shaped layout maximizes the use of the open central atrium, which is visually separated from its surroundings by a structure covered with climbing plants.

The laboratories are equipped with a technical gas detection system and their subsequent extraction through an anti-static air duct. The rooms are designed to prevent contamination transfer, particularly by infiltration, through a permanent pressure cascade system.
